CJMW's Material Library

This summer I'm interning with CJMW Architecture [Calloway Johnson Moore & West] and CDI [Center for Design Innovation]. It's really the best of both worlds colliding. CJMW is an architecture firm that offer services in planning, architecture, engineering, and interior design. They are truly an amazing team of professionals. CDI is a multi-campus research center within the state wide UNC system. CDI's projects are related to their key capabilities in Motion Capture and Rapid Prototyping. Their work involves development of techniques in data analysis, modeling and visualization. This is a major opportunity for any student [like me] who is interested in product design / development.

At CJMW I am responsible for organizing and maintaining the library. Photos below show what the library looked like on my 1st day. Designers depend on the library to create storyboards for clients as well make final selections of materials and finishes on projects. There are hundreds of manufacturers to choose from, therefore, being organized is the only way to make the best selections. Manufacturer Reps also expect to efficiently access their existing binders for updates. It’s equally important to keep the shelves clutter free to add new and exciting finishes or materials or new lines. Since the library is nearing capacity, adding new items require strategic planning and rearranging. Currently the library consists of:

[Textiles]  fabric - vinyl - leather

[Wall Covering] vinyl - wood - textiles

[Window Coverings] Linen Weave Fabric - Fabric - Shades

[Flooring] hardwood - bamboo - ply boo - laminate - wood vinyl planks - tiles - granite and stones - terrazzo - carpet and rugs - marble

[Counter Tops] quartz - ceramic - laminate - marble

Ceilings Materials

Paint

& The list goes on!

Shopping for a Senior Living Facility

Some of my other duties include shopping for accessories and staging.

We are designing a senior living facility where there should be little glass or breakable objects.  I needed to find an object for a 55" L console with a lodge type feel; not too rustic!  These wicker vases seemed to fit the criteria perfectly.

I also needed books to complete the overall experience of the space.  Books are great fillers items.  They are somewhat a universal language among accent pieces.  Just be totally careful of the subject matter when making selections.  So off I go.
