I have the most unique and privileged opportunity to work with both CDI and CJMW Architecture this summer as an intern. What makes this situation unique is that CDI is moving to a new facility and CJMW Architecture is designing the building inside / out OR outside / in. Since this new construction I've been involved on the client's behalf as well as the firm's, where I’ve been able to contribute a tremendous amount of my talents with both organizations. Meetings, however, can get a little confusing since my involvement has been relevant. I work at CJMW on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and on Tuesday and Thursday I'm with CDI, therefore, I have the distinct pleasure of preparing and participating in meetings at any of the following scenarios:
• internally at [CJMW] when interiors meet with the architects
• externally with CJMW at [CDI]
• internally with CDI and CJMW presents
• internally with CDI
It just depends on the day of the week that determines which role I will play.
My talents have also been demonstrated in:
• selecting finishes
• rendering floor plans
• ordering samples
• coordinating a budget worksheet
• updating and maintaining specification documents
• updating and maintaining finish schedules
• building and leveraging client relationships
• acting with integrity with privileged information within both organizations
"In December 2010, the State of North Carolina purchased approximately four acres of land in downtown Winston-Salem's Piedmont Triad Research Park.
The chancellors and president of CDI's constituent schools have appointed a committee to work with CJMW Architecture and Samet Corporation / SRS to create the future facility. The new building will house research, education and service programs based on creative work and advanced technologies.
In February 2012, leaders from CDI's affiliate campuses, the city of Winston-Salem and the Chamber of Commerce officiated at the groundbreaking of the construction site.
